Injection Guide
Preparation Before Injection:
Remove the pen from the refrigerator and leave it at room temperature for 30 minutes before injection (injecting cold medication may be painful).
Check the pen label to ensure the correct dose and a valid expiration date.
Before use, visually inspect the solution. It should be clear and colorless to pale yellow. If you notice foreign particles (suspended or settled), discoloration, or cloudiness, do not use the medication.
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Choosing the Injection Site:
- Perform the injection subcutaneously (SC) in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm.
- With each injection, choose a different site from the previous injection (rotate injection sites).
Injection Steps:
Clean the injection site with alcohol and allow the skin to air dry completely (about 30 seconds). Do not blow on the injection site.
Remove the protective cap straight off (do not twist it).
As soon as the cap is removed, place the pen vertically (90 degrees) on the skin and press it down until the clear base of the pen is fully compressed.
(Applying gentle but firm pressure of the pen base against the skin helps prevent medication leakage and ensures the proper injection depth.)
Slowly press the injection button at the end of the pen with steady pressure until it reaches the end.
Hearing the first click (usually within 1–2 seconds) indicates the injection has started. Keep the pen firmly in place until you hear the second click (after about 10 seconds), ensuring the needle does not move.
The second click confirms that the injection is complete. After hearing it, wait another 5 seconds to ensure the medication is fully delivered, then remove the needle.
After completing the injection, gently remove the needle straight out and cover the injection site with dry cotton.
If a drop of blood appears, gently press the site with sterile gauze or clean cotton (do not rub).
Note
Single-dose pens are for one-time use only and must be discarded after use.
A small amount of blood or medication at the injection site is normal. Subcutaneous injections may cause temporary pain or slight bruising.
Never mix tirzepatide and insulin in the same syringe. These medications must be injected separately. If injected in the same body area, the injection sites should not be adjacent to each other.
